Abstract | To improve the antifouling performance of the titanium dioxide coating, TiO2particles were modified with KH-550 silane and dispersed in the titanium dioxide gel coating. The photocatalytic performance, antibacterial properties and anti-algae attachment properties of the coatings were evaluated respectively. The attachment situation of algae on the surface of the coatings was studied by laser scanning confocal microscopy and scanning electron microscopy. The results show that the antifouling performance of the coating added with TiO2nano-particles is better than that of the coating without adding TiO2nano-particles. The reduction rates of the titanium dioxide coating added TiO2particles with the particle size of 5-10 nm for Nitzschia closterium f. minutissima, Phaeodactylum tricornutum and Chlorella adhesion attain 92.1%, 71.5% and 62.1% respectively. Compared with the pure titanium dioxide coating, the reduction rates for three algaes are improved by 29.7%, 68.4% and 43.5%, respectively. The addition of TiO2particles can make the coating possesses hydrophilic, antibacterial and self-cleaning properties, which are beneficial for improving the antifouling performance of the coating. © 2017, Editorial Office of CHINA SURFACE ENGINEERING.
