Progress in PEDOT-based Conduct Electrode for Dye-sensitized Solar Cells

AbstractDye-sensitized solar cells (DSSC) is an attracting issue of the new solar cell field. Its low-light electricity generating capacity has been further explored and developed. The application of transparent and flexible DSSC on wearable devices has also attracted more and more attention. The performance of the DSSC highly depends on the conduct electrode (CE), therefore the selection of the material for CE arises as a key issue. Poly(3, 4-ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT), a high molecular conductive polymer, has shown its potential as CE material in recent years because of its high conductivity, catalytic ability of the electrolyte, transparency and flexibility. In this paper, we focus on PEDOT and doped PEDOT using for CEs of the DSSCs. The preparation methods of PEDOT and doped PEDOT have been discussed and the progresses of the researches on the application of these materials as CEs of DSSCs have been reviewed. We propose that in situ polymerization is the promising method for preparing PEDOT film CE, whereas physical coating is the potential route for large-scale fabrication. This review provides references for the development of the CEs of DSSCs. © 2017, Materials Review Magazine. All right reserved.
